A custom pizza box is a one-piece E- or B-flute corrugated carton that folds without glue, carries a grease-resistant interior, and is vented so steam escapes instead of condensing on the crust. It has to stack hot, survive a delivery bag, and print a brand at the same time.

  • Vent placement engineered. Vents sit high in the side wall — steam out, heat in.
  • B-flute insulation. 3 mm of corrugation keeps pizza hotter and survives stacked delivery bags.
  • PFAS-free grease barrier. Meets tightening US, UK, Canadian and Australian food-contact restrictions.
  • Prints for pennies. One- or two-colour flexo on kraft gives brand presence at minimal unit cost.

What are custom pizza boxes?

Every pizza box is a compromise between heat retention and steam release. Trap the steam and the crust goes soggy; vent too much and the pizza is cold on arrival. The standard answer is a small number of die-cut vents in the upper side walls — high enough to release steam, low enough that heat does not simply escape upward.

Corrugated flute does the thermal work. B-flute's 3 mm air layer insulates better than E-flute and resists the crush of stacked hot boxes in a delivery bag, which is why most delivery operations specify B over E despite the print quality trade-off.

Print method matters commercially. Direct flexographic printing on kraft in one or two colours is standard because it survives heat and grease and costs very little per box. Full-colour litho lamination looks better but is rarely worth it on a box that is opened once and recycled.

Custom Pizza Boxes: styles and constructions

The construction decides how the box closes, how much it protects and what it costs. These are the formats we produce most often for custom pizza boxes.

One-piece corrugated pizza box

Folds without glue or tape; the universal takeaway format.

Vented pizza box

Die-cut side vents that release steam and keep crust crisp.

Half-fold / slice box

Smaller format for single slices and personal pizzas.

Windowed take-and-bake box

Clear aperture for retail chilled and frozen pizza.

Materials

B-flute kraft corrugated
Best insulation and stacking strength; the delivery standard.
E-flute corrugated
Lighter and better printing surface for retail-facing boxes.
Grease-resistant liner
PFAS-free barrier that stops oil soaking through the base.
White-top kraft
Printable white face while keeping kraft strength.

Every order is cut to your interior dimensions — these are the sizes customers request most often, and a useful starting point if you are not sure where to begin.

How to choose custom pizza boxes

  1. Choose B-flute for delivery

E-flute prints better but insulates worse and crushes under stacked hot boxes.

  2. Insist on PFAS-free barriers

PFAS grease-proofing is being restricted across all 24 of our markets.

  3. Do not over-vent

Too many vents and the pizza arrives cold. A small number placed high is the right answer.

  4. Keep print simple

Two flexo colours on kraft is the best cost-per-impression on a box opened once.

The headline price includes local VAT or GST where that market requires it. If you are VAT-registered you reclaim that, so the excl. tax column is your real cost. US and Canadian prices add sales tax at invoicing instead. Volume pricing improves at 250, 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 units — seewholesale custom boxes for the volume tiers.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do pizza boxes have vents?
To let steam escape. Trapped steam condenses on the lid and drips onto the crust, making it soggy. Vents are placed high in the side walls so steam escapes while heat stays in.
What flute should a pizza box use?
B-flute for delivery — its 3 mm air layer insulates better and survives the crush of stacked hot boxes in a delivery bag. E-flute is lighter with a better print surface, which suits retail and take-and-bake boxes.
Are pizza boxes recyclable if they have grease on them?
Lightly soiled corrugated is accepted in many kerbside programmes, but heavily grease-soaked board is not. Using a PFAS-free barrier keeps the box within paper recycling rules where they apply — always check your local authority's guidance.
Are your pizza boxes PFAS-free?
Yes. We specify PFAS-free grease-resistant barriers as standard, in line with tightening food-contact restrictions in the US, EU, UK and Australia.
What is the minimum order for custom pizza boxes?
100 boxes per size and artwork. Because pizzerias order continuously, most customers move to 1,000+ unit runs quickly, where flexographic printing brings the unit cost down sharply.
What pizza box sizes do you make?
8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 in are standard, and we can cut any size in between. 12 in is by far the highest-volume size for most operators.
